UCCS undergraduate students will join others from the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado College and Pikes Peak Community College for the 16th Annual Colorado Springs Undergraduate Research Forum April 6 at UCCS. Nearly 300 poster and oral presentations are scheduled in the areas of arts, business, engineering, mathematics, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences in the University Center.
Presentations are divided into three sessions starting at 10 a.m., 1;15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Roger Martinez-Davila, associate professor of history, will deliver the lunch keynote titled “Medieval Manuscripts, Citizen Science and Virtual Reality: Deciphering the Secrets of Medieval Jews, Christians and Muslims” from 12-1 p.m. in the Centennial Hall auditorium.
“Colorado Springs is unique in the way each of the institutions come together to celebrate student research,” said Michelle Neely, director of Writing Across the Curriculum and chair of the 2019 CSURF. “It takes a great team from each school to execute this event each year, and the reward for us is to see the high level of work done by our students and faculty mentors in such a wide variety of research areas.”
This year’s forum will include several firsts in the history of the event:
- Participation from PPCC.
- Musical performances. Musicians and singers will be in University Center 302 during the first two round of sessions (10-11:40 a.m., 1:20-3 p.m.)
- A room dedicated to Ignite presentations, a high-energy format where presenters are limited to 20 slides in five minutes. The Ignite sessions will be in University Center 303A from 10-11:20 a.m.
- A room dedicated to Spanish-only presentations. Those sessions will be in University Center 124 from 1:20-2:40 p.m.
- A room dedicated to a panel on the QUAD Innovation Partnership. The panel format will be in University Center 116A from 3-4:20 p.m.
The CSURF started in 2004 as a collaboration between UCCS and the Air Force Academy, with Colorado College added in 2005 and PPCC in 2019. Schools rotate as hosts each year. There is no cost to attend the poster or oral presentations.
