The departments of special education and curriculum and instruction within the UCCS College of Education will merge to create the Department of Teaching and Learning.

Joe Wehrman, interim dean, College of Education, announced the merger as the college prepares to transition to new leadership. Valerie Martin Conley will begin as the college’s dean July 1.

The new department will bring together faculty expertise and resources to oversee licensure programs in special education, inclusive early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, and alternative teacher licensure. The department will also offer graduate programs in science education, literacy, TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), gifted and talented education, special education and curriculum and instruction.

  1. As a proud graduate of UCCS I applaud your decision to merge. I still anxiously await the day you offer a doctoral program.
