In Memory: Gerald Broce

A campus plaque dedication for Gerald L. Broce, associate professor emeritus, Department of Anthropology, is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sept. 9 on the first floor of Centennial Hall.

Professor Broce died March 15, 2011 at age 68. He was the founding faculty member of the Department of Anthropology at UCCS.  He joined UCCS in 1974 after completing his Ph.D. in anthropology at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1973. He retired from the campus in 2006.

Members of the Broce family including his wife, Jodie, daughter, Jenna, and son, Jed, will attend the dedication.

Refreshments will be provided by the Office of the Chancellor and the Office of the Dean of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.

  1. I am sorry I was not able to get in touch with Gerald [Dr. Broce]. I have missed our anthropology, and especially Darwin and Huxley, talks. Gerald was an inspiration to all, he motivated even engineering students to appreciate the wonder, depth, and breath of Anthropology as enabling us to understand ourselves. I was fully expecting Gerald to be around when I visited later this year. I am sorry for your loss. Helen Kedzierski.

  2. Dŕ. Broce’s teaching and discussiòns come to mind often as I see the daily world news. Sad he is gone so young.
