Faculty in the Department of Computer Science within the College of Engineering and Applied Science rank among the national leaders in their field for research accepted into the top conferences based on the Computer Science Rankings website, csrankings.org.

Among all areas of computer science, UCCS ranked in the top 100 for research publications in year-to-date rankings each year since 2011. The faculty ranked as high as No. 75 nationally and second in Colorado for research spanning from 2016 to present.

For research conducted since 2016, UCCS ranked No. 35 in the United States for work on computer vision within the field of artificial intelligence. Terrance Boult, El Pomar Endowed Chair of Innovation and Security, had two works accepted at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshop in July 2017, while Jonathan Ventura, assistant professor, was accepted at the European Conference on Computer Vision in October 2016.

UCCS ranked No. 41 for computer architecture with the acceptance of Xiaobo “Charles” Zhou, interim dean and professor, at the International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems in April 2017. Yanyan Zhuang, assistant professor, put UCCS at No. 53 for software engineering with her acceptance at the Foundations of Software Engineering.

Maintained by Emery Berger, professor, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the rankings website compiles faculty work accepted into the most selective conferences within each area of computer science. It utilizes a metric-based system for a university’s presence at the top publication venues. For information on methodology, visit the ranking’s FAQ page.
