Fort Carson soldiers and UCCS men will trade boots and tennis shoes in exchange for high-heeled pumps Oct. 10 in an effort to draw attention women’s experiences and sexual assault prevention.

UCCS will host the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event beginning at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 on the West Lawn as a way of improving relationships between men and women and decreasing potential violence.

“Events such as this demonstrate that men are willing and able to be courageous partners with women in making the world a safer place,” Ethan Wade, outreach coordinator, Respect on Campus, said. “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk a mile in women’s high-heeled shoes.”

UCCS Respect on Campus, Fort Carson’s Army Community Services and Pikes Peak Community College are event sponsors.

Organizers are encouraging groups to form six to 10 person teams and to sign up early. The first 200 people to register will get a free shirt, backpack and related gear.
