Chancellor Memo: CU marketing

Sept. 11, 2015

Dear Members of the UCCS Community,

With the beginning of a new academic year, we recognize that the higher education landscape is increasingly competitive. UCCS not only competes for top students, faculty and staff, but also for donations, research funding and other resources. The competition includes traditional colleges and universities, for-profit higher education and a growing array of online schools.

That’s why CU President Bruce Benson has initiated a system-wide marketing endeavor aimed at broadly conveying CU’s value and contributions, supporting our fundraising and outreach efforts, and adding value to campus-based marketing such as Reach Higher. A system-wide marketing team that includes Martin Wood and Greg Hoye from University Advancement has been working for the past several months on the effort, which will be in market beginning this month. Funding comes from system initiative funds (interest earnings on CU investments), so no tuition revenue, state funding or donor contributions will be diverted from campus use.

You will soon see television and print ads, digital ads, billboards and other media using the creative concept All Four: Colorado. It highlights the variety, accomplishments and benefits of CU’s four campuses and conveys the collective impact of the university. The concept has various iterations that will feature CU strengths, such as All Four:Progress, All Four:Education, All Four:Health, All Four:Innovation.

The initiative will augment our Reach Higher campaign and enhance the progress we have made with it. The team working on the effort has been mindful of the need to coordinate with our campus marketing and leverage what we are doing. Marketing CU more broadly will help us communicate the great work that happens on our campus and at our university. You will hear more about the effort in President Benson’s upcoming electronic newsletter. In the meantime, thank you for all you do and best of luck for a great academic year.

Sincerely,
