The UCCS Primary Care Clinic is offering faculty and staff an opportunity for a low-cost flu vaccine and an introduction to the clinic’s other services.
The clinic staff began immunizing patients Sept. 2.
From 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday throughout the fall semester, the Primary Care Clinic will offer a walk-in, no-appointment-necessary flu shot clinic, according to Jeff Spicher, clinic director. The flu preventative shots are $20 and available to faculty, staff and dependents more than 12 years old. For established patients at the Primary Care Clinic, insurance will be billed. No immunizations will be scheduled Sept. 16 and 18.
“We think this is a great opportunity for UCCS faculty, staff and family members to get to know the Primary Care Clinic and what it can offer them,” Spicher said. “Providing low-cost flu shots fits with the clinic’s wellness focus. Through services offered here in the Primary Care Clinic and other clinics in the UCCS HealthCircle, we want to help people avoid illness and promote health, in addition to providing services when someone has a problem.”
For faculty and staff who prefer an appointment to receive a flu shot, or who wish to discuss primary care provider services at the clinic, please call 255-8001.
The Primary Care Clinic is part of the UCCS HealthCircle of clinics and is located in the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences, 4863 N. Nevada Ave. The Lane Center opened with great fanfare in Feb. 2014 as a collaborative effort between UCCS, Peak Vista Community Health Centers, and alumna Margot Lane. The Lane Center is the first UCCS building on the revamped North Nevada corridor.
Five UCCS clinics operate in the Lane Center under the banner of UCCS HealthCircle in the Lane Center. Services include the Advanced Practice Nurse-managed Primary Care Clinic to help with common ailments and ongoing health concerns as well as specialized services in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, aging, and behavioral health. Since February, clinic leaders have worked to ensure clinic visits will be covered by CU healthcare plans for employees and dependents more than 12 years old consistent with the reimbursement levels described in each plan.
