Dr. Kimbra Smith is an associate professor in the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences’ Department of Anthropology. As a cultural and applied anthropologist, her theoretical research focuses mostly on empathy and different kinds of persistent inequalities in society whilst her applied work focuses on equity and shifting communities away from discrimination.
Smith sat down to discuss a few of her domestic and international projects and explains why they are important right now. A local project she’s directing called, “Revealing Invisible Histories of Colorado Springs,” tells the story of how Colorado Springs became what it is today through the interactions of the city’s diverse community members.
