Nearly 50 new faculty members joined UCCS this fall. Today, meet 10 faculty members from the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, half of the new faculty members within the college.
Colin McAllister, assistant professor, Department of Visual and Performing Arts. McAllister was previously director of the music program at UCCS. He was at the University of California San Diego, University of San Diego, Palmar College, San Diego Christian College, University of Colorado Denver and Colorado Christian University.
McAllister earned his bachelor’s degree in music performance from CU Denver, master’s degrees in contemporary music performance from UC San Diego and history from UCCS, and his D.M.A. in contemporary music performance from the University of California San Diego.
Amanda Morgenstern, assistant professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Morgenstern was previously a postdoctoral fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She was also a postdoctoral fellow, research assistant and teaching assistant at Colorado School of Mines, and a visiting lecturer at Colorado College.
Morgenstern earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Colorado College and her Ph.D. in applied chemistry of Colorado School of Mines.
Tijesunimi Odebode, instructor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Odebode was previously an adjunct professor at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland; and at Howard County Community College in Columbia, Maryland. He also worked as a teaching assistant at Morgan State University.
Odebode earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Howard University, his master’s degree in science (chemistry) from Morgan State University and his Ph.D. in bioenvironmental sciences (chemistry) from Morgan State University.
Martin Salgado, instructor, Department of English. Salgado was previously an instructor at Cerritos College and Cypress College. He also worked as an essay evaluator at the Center for Achievement, Resources and Enrichment at Pacific Oaks College and as an instructor and writing mentor at California State University, Chico.
Salgado earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from California State University, Chico.
Diana Selmeczy, assistant professor, Department of Psychology. Selmeczy was previously a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Davis. She also worked as a junior specialist at UC Davis.
Selmeczy earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis; her master’s degree and Ph.D. in psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.
Rachel Thayer, assistant professor, Department of Psychology. Thayer was previously a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Scientific Computation in Imagery at the University of California, San Diego. She also worked as a graduate research assistant in the Center for Health & Addiction: Neuroscience, Genes & Environment at the university of Colorado Boulder, and as a research consultant for the Mind Research Network at Oregon Health & Science University.
Thayer earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, San Diego; and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology and neuroscience from the University of Colorado Boulder.
Crystal Vander Zanden, assistant professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Vander Zanden was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the University of New Mexico. She also worked as a co-instructor at Central New Mexico Community College and doctoral research at Colorado State University.
Vander Zanden earned her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Doane College and her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Colorado State University.
Mioki Webster, instructor, Department of Languages and Cultures. Webster was previously a part-time Japanese instructor at St. Louis Community College and Washington University in St. Louis. She also worked as an instructor of Japanese at Illinois College.
Webster earned her associate’s degree in communication from Fort Scott Community College, her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Illinois College and her master’s degree in Japanese at Washington University in St. Louis.
Sean Williams, associate professor, Technical Communication and Information Design. Williams was previously a Provost’s Fellow at Clemson University. He also held positions as fellow of the Spiro Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership, chair of the Department of English and associate dean of the Graduate School at Clemson.
Williams earned his bachelor’s degree in creative writing from the University of Utah, his master’s degree in rhetoric and composition at Arizona State University, his master’s of business administration from Clemson University and his Ph.D. in technical communication from the University of Washington.
Rebecca Wood, assistant professor, Department of Anthropology. Wood was previously an instructor of anthropology since 2017. She also worked as an instructor and teaching assistant at the University of Montana, and as an instructor at Missoula College.
Wood earned her bachelor’s degree in anthropology, her master’s degree in linguistics and her PhD. in anthropology from the University of Montana.
