Through excellence in community service and conference initiatives, UCCS athletics earned the 2017-18 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Cup in November. The cup was awarded by RMAC Commissioner Chris Graham to the campus SAAC during the No. 26 home basketball game against Colorado College.
The RMAC SAAC Cup is awarded to the institutional SAAC that accrues the most points over four different initiatives: average number of community service hours per student-athlete during the academic year, fall and spring initiatives designated by the conference SAAC, and total funds raised to support local causes and charities during the academic year. UCCS earned 3,900 points to lead all RMAC schools in 2017-18. The Mountain Lions raised more than $700, collected over 750 canned items and racked up 12.5 hours of community service per student-athlete.
SAAC is comprised of two members of each of the UCCS teams and promotes communication between athletic administration and student-athletes; implements programs to encourage academic success, health and community awareness; and encourages student-athlete participation in various programs.
