New faculty join campus

New faculty at UCCS

More than 40 new faculty members joined UCCS this fall. Today, meet 13 faculty members from the College of Business, College of Engineering and Applied Science, Kramer Family Library and the School of Public Affairs.

College of Business

Thomas AicherThomas Aicher, assistant professor, Sport Management. He was previously associate professor and assistant professor at the University of Cincinnati, and assistant professor at Northern Illinois University.

He earned aBachelor’s Degree from Virginia Polytechnic and State University, and a Master’s Degree and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.


Magan Calhoun, instructor, Accounting. Calhoun previously served as a course instructor at Western Governor’s University, Online, and an accounting instructor at Austin Peay State University.

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Austin Peay State University, a Master’s Degree from Belmont University, and a Ph.D. from Creighton University.


Stephen FerrisStephen Ferris, dean. Ferris previous served as the director of the Financial Research Institute and interim dean of the Trulaske College of Business at the University of Missouri – Columbia.

He earned diplomas from both the College of Naval Command and Staff and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, a Bachelor’s Degree from Duquesne University, Master’s Degrees from the United States Army War College and the University of Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.


Wei HsuWei Hsu, assistant professor, Accounting. He was previously an instructor and teaching assistant at the University of Texas at Arlington.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the National Taiwan University, a Master’s Degree from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington.


Greg KuppenheimerGreg Kuppenheimer, instructor, Finance. Kuppenheimer was as an instructor and adjunct professor at UCCS since 2015. He previously served as managing director at Deutsche Bank.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Bucknell University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania.


Brad MonsonBrad Monson, instructor, Business Law. Monson was an adjunct professor at UCCS since August 2017. He previously served as an attorney for the Business Law Group.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree, a Master’s Degree, and J.D. from Brigham Young University.


Kimberly SwetzKimberly Swetz, instructor, Quantitative Methods. Swetz was previously a lead faculty member in mathematics at Colorado Technical University and an adjunct instructor at Pikes Peak Community College.

She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Biola University, a Master’s Degree from California State Polytechnic University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado Denver.


College of Engineering and Applied Science

Philip BrownPhilip Brown, assistant professor, Computer Science. Brown previously served as a graduate student research at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a research assistant at the University of Colorado Boulder.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master’s Degree from CU Boulder, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.


Michaela GonzalezMichaela Gonzalez, instructor, Computer Science. Gozalez previously served as a lecturer in computer science at UCCS.

She earned a Master’s Degree from UCCS.


Byeong LeeByeong Lee, assistant professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering. Lee previously served as vice president of research for Samsung and as an adjunct professor at Sungkyunkwan University.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from KyungPook National University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.


Kraemer Family Library

Jennifer Eltringham, instructor. Eltringham previously served as a library associate at Penrose Library in the Pikes Peak Library District and obtained the MLIS Culminating Internship Experience at the University of Denver Special Collections and Archives.

She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Denver.


Susan Vandagriff, assistant professor. Vandagriff previously served at Indiana University as a public services assistant at Wells Library and as a digitization assistant at Lilly Library.

She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Evansville and a Master’s Degree from Indiana University.


School of Public Affairs

John WhalenJoel Whalen, instructor, Criminal Justice. Whalen previously served as an adjunct professor at Metropolitan Community College, an adjunct instructor and an instructor at the FBI, an adjunct instructor for the National Security Agency and an adjunct instructor or CIA.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha and a Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
