Education dean finalists to visit campus

Three finalist candidates for the position of dean of the UCCS College of Education will meet with faculty and staff in open forums and campus receptions during April 12, 19 and 26. A fourth finalist met with faculty and staff April 5.

Brief descriptions of the candidates and the dates and times of their forums and receptions follow. The candidates were selected as finalists by a campus-wide search committee chaired by Venkat Reddy, dean, College of Business. Application materials will be shared by email prior to candidate visits.

Rik D’Amato, founding director, Center for Teaching and Learning Enhancement, University of Macau, China, will present in an open forum scheduled for 4 p.m. April 12 in the University Center Theater. A reception will follow in University Center 303

D’Amato previously served as professor of psychology at the University of Macau and for many years was a member of the faculty at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. His professional career began as a high school English teacher in Waukesha, Wisc.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology education from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, a master’s in school psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind.

D’Amato will arrive April 11 and will meet with the search committee and others prior to his public presentation and reception.

Mary Snyder, dean, College of Education, The University of Alaska Anchorage, will present in an open form scheduled for 4 p.m. April 19 in the University Center Theater. A reception will follow in University Center 303.

Previously, Snyder was a member of the faculty at Central Missouri State University, the University of Scranton, Scranton, Pa., and the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary and special education from the University of Northern Illinois, DeKalb, and a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

She will arrive April 18 and meet with the search committee and others prior to her public presentation and reception.

David Whaley, associate dean, College of Human Sciences, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, will present in an open forum scheduled for 4:15 p.m. April 26 in the University Center Theater. A reception will follow in University Center 303.

Previously, Whaley was director of educator licensing programs for the School of Education at Colorado State University, a professor of agriculture education at Colorado State University and a professor at California State University Polytechnic University, Pomona, Calif. He began his career as a agriculture science teacher in Santa Rosa, Calif.

He holds bachelor’s and master’s degree in animal science from the University of California, Davis, and a Ph.D. in educational studies from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.

Timothy Slater, Excellence in Higher Education Endowed Chair of Science Education, University of Wyoming presented in an April 5 open forum at the University Center. A reception followed in University Center 116.

Previously, Slater was a member of the faculty at the University of Arizona, Montana State University, Bozeman, Mont., and Pittsburg (Kan.) State University.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan., a master’s from Clemson University, Clemson, S.C., and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C.
