Healthy opportunities offered April 5

The UCCS Student Health Center will offer free screenings at its annual Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 5 in Berger Hall.

In an effort to promote living a healthy life style, the Student Health Center has collaborated with Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences to conduct multiple free health screenings that include checking cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure for all UCCS students, staff and faculty.

Stephanie Hanenberg, director, Student Health Center, believes it is important for the campus community to participate so that they may take advantage of the screenings.

“These are services that they may not have easy access to,” Hanenberg said.

Of last year’s participants, Hanenberg believes close to half of the 370+ people who attended were faculty or staff members.

Hanenberg believes that a healthy lifestyle has a direct effect on other aspects of an individual’s life.

“It gives a better quality of life,” Haneberg said. “People generally feel better and are more productive.”

Another highlight is free chair massages that are available to all attendees. Three massage therapists will be present including Chrissie Bailey, LMT, UCCS’ resident massage therapist, as well as three to four massage therapy students from Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy.

Along with the free screenings there will be more than 45 vendors from both on and off campus resources present with information on healthy lifestyle options.

  1. What a great initiative for the staff at your campus and it is a great way to look after the health of your staff. Congratulations for being so pro-active and I hope that most staff will attend.
