Employees and family members join in commencement festivities

Among the 1,100 graduates who walked across the stage at the Broadmoor World Arena at commencement May 11, eight faculty and staff members joined four family members of employees for the celebration.

Most took advantage of the tuition benefit provided to CU employees and qualified dependents. UCCS employees can waive up to nine credits per academic year for undergraduate or graduate courses. For additional information, visit CU Employee Services.

Alex Baker, residence hall manager, Office of Residence Life and Housing, earned his master’s degree through the SAHE program.

Faculty and staff who earned degrees were:

  • Alex Baker, residence hall manager, Office of Residence Life and Housing. He earned a master’s degree in leadership in education.
  • Robin Bredl, financial administrator, College of Business. She earned a master’s degree in business administration and the Distinguished Graduate Academic Achievement Award.
  • Jon Bogh, coordinator of civic engagement, Office of Student Life. He earned a master’s degree in leadership in education.
  • David Buccieri, residence hall manager, Office of Residence Life and Housing. He earned a master’s degree in leadership in education.
  • Brad Johnson, project manager, Planning, Design and Construction Office. He earned a master’s degree in public administration.
  • Alex Koehler, associate director, Athletic Department. He earned a master’s degree in communication.
  • Colin McAllister, music program director, Visual and Performing Arts Department. He earned a master’s degree in history and the Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the department.
  • Tanya Trujillo, senior credentials examiner and nursing liaison, Admissions Office. She earned a master’s degree in leadership in education.

Four family members of faculty and staff were also among the graduates:

  • Mariya Anatoliivna Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in business with Mountain Lion Honors. She is the daughter of Anatoliy Pinchuck, professor, Department of Physics and Energy Science.
  • Rachel Menkhus earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with cum laude honor. She is the sister of Rebecca Stephens, consultant and recruiting coordinator, Human Resources.
  • William Schiffelbein earned a master’s degree in leadership in education. He is the spouse of Krystal Schiffelbein, coordinator of student clubs, organization and leadership, Office of Student Life.
  • Josef Judy earned a bachelor’s degree in geography and environment studies. He is the spouse of Nery Macias, admissions counselor, Admissions Services.
