UCCS international business student Mirai Nagasu scored 186.54 points in the ladies single figure skating event and finished No. 10 at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games at the Gangneung Ice Arena in South Korea. She placed second among American figure skaters.
Nagasu scored 66.93 points in the short program Feb. 20. She attempted the triple axel but stumbled on the landing. Her higher technical score with the triple axel was enough to lead the Americans and was ninth overall after the first event. Nagasu scored 119.61 points in her free skate Feb. 22, her event in the Olympic team event, but only completed half a revolution on her attempted triple axel early in the skate and a scheduled triple lutz-triple toe combination ended as a single lutz.
Nagasu became the first American woman to execute a triple axel in the Olympic Games, and the third in Olympic history, during the team event Feb. 11. Her season-best score of 137.53 points helped secure the bronze medal for the United States in the event.
Nagasu is scheduled to participate in the Stars on Ice Tour, a 22-performance event from April 6 through May 20 with several of her Olympic teammates. Her closest performance to Colorado Springs will be May 16 at the Maverik Center in Salt Lake City.
