Nominations open for multiple UCCS and CU awards

Plaques from the 2015 Campus Awards Ceremony

With the award ceremonies for the entertainment industry in full swing, nominations are open for a variety of awards for UCCS faculty, staff and students.

UCCS awards will be presented at the Campus Awards Ceremony April 25. CU awards will be recognized at the campus ceremony and presented at various meetings throughout the spring. Awards below are sorted by deadline date:

2017 Garrett Swasey Outstanding Staff Award – Laura Chandler

UCCS Garrett Swasey Outstanding Staff Award
Acknowledges the achievements and contributions of a UCCS staff member who exemplifies excellence in service to the campus and community.
Eligible: Permanent staff member (classified or exempt) employed as such for a minimum three years as of Dec. 31, 2017
Deadline: 4 p.m., Feb. 5

2017 Staff Council Service Excellence Award – Greg Williams

University of Colorado Staff Council Service Excellence Award
Recognizes a staff member at each campus who has provided outstanding and sustained volunteer service to their campus or the university system, and to community/civic/professional organizations during the past three years.
Eligible: Full-time staff members with three years of employment at CU
Deadline: 11:59 p.m., Feb. 12

2017 Student Employee of the Year – Shae Thomas

UCCS Student Employee of the Year
Recognizes an outstanding student employee in six areas: reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism, longevity, uniqueness of contribution, service to campus and community.
Eligible: Work study, hourly or salaried student employees with at least six months of part-time or three-months of full-time employment between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018, and enrolled with at least a half-time credit load in the fall and spring semesters
Deadline:  5 p.m., Feb. 16

2017 Ron Wisner Human Spirit and Leadership Award – Nayda Benitez

UCCS Ron Wisner Human Spirit and Leadership Award
Presented to an outstanding student leader who embodies each of the following criteria: vision, integrity, relationship and teamwork, and positive actions.
Eligible: Undergraduate students. Past nominees and recipients of the award are not eligible.

2017 Campus Sustainability Award – Molly Mulligan

UCCS Campus Sustainability Award
Recognizes exceptional educational, professional, civic or other advancement of sustainability, with emphasis on activities at UCCS.
Eligible: UCCS employees in at least their third year or groups. Previous winners are not eligible.

2017 Student Achievement Awards – Nicole Chung and Mykinthia Ebron

UCCS Student Achievement Awards
Recognizes two students who made a significant personal accomplishment in conjunction with earning a degree and/or made a substantial contribution to the quality of student life
Eligible: Undergraduate or graduate student who graduated (or will graduate) between August 2017 and May 2018
Deadline: March 1

2015 Chase Faculty Community Service Award – Andrea O’Reilly Herrera

University of Colorado Chase Faculty Community Service Award
Recognizes a full-time faculty member who has, pro bono, provided exceptional education, humanitarian, civic or other service in the community.
Eligible: Full-time faculty members with rank of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, senior instructor or instruction. Previous winners are not eligible.
Deadline: 5 p.m., March 5

2016 Thomas Jefferson Award – Robert von Dassanowsky

University of Colorado Thomas Jefferson Award
Recognizes students, staff and faculty members who advance the ideals of Thomas Jefferson including broad interests in literature, arts and sciences, and public affairs;  strong concern for the advancement of higher education; deeply seated sense of individual civic responsibility; profound commitment to individual welfare and rights.
Eligible: Full-time faculty, students (undergraduate or graduate) and/or staff
Deadline: March 5 at 5 p.m.

2017 Faculty Award for Excellence in Research – Cerian Gibbes

UCCS Faculty Award for Excellence in Research
Recognizes excellence in research, scholarly and creative works.
Eligible: Full-time UCCS faculty members with rank of associate professor or above in at least their third year at UCCS. Previous winners are not eligible.
Deadline: March 9

2017 Outstanding Instructor Award – Dallas Strawn

UCCS Outstanding Instructor Award
Recognizes excellence in teaching by full-time or part-time instructors.
Eligible: Full-time or part-time UCCS instructors with at least five semesters of teaching at UCCS. Previous winners are not eligible.

UCCS Faculty Award for Outstanding Contribution to Diversity and Inclusiveness
Recognizes full-time faculty members who demonstrate sustained contributions to diversity and inclusiveness in either teaching or scholarship and in community engagement.
Eligible: Full-time faculty members with rank or assistant professor above, or a full-time instructor, in at least their third year at UCCS. Previous winners are not eligible.
Deadline: March 16
