UCCS students, faculty and staff can ride a city bus anywhere in town for free April 11-15.

Mountain Metropolitan Transit will provide rides on fixed-route buses to anyone who shows a UCCS ID card to the driver.

The free rides are intended to introduce newcomers to Mountain Metro and “highlight how affordable, convenient and sustainable taking the bus can be,” Mountain Metro said.

“The goal is to allow folks a free opportunity to see how easy it is to ride a city bus,” said Jim Spice, executive director, UCCS Parking and Transportation Services.

Officials are encouraging students, faculty and staff to use the bus system to get to and from campus – and also for trips anywhere city buses go.

The UCCS Gallery of Contemporary Art, for example, is encouraging the UCCS community to take a free bus ride to its downtown studio, GOCA 121 at 121 S. Tejon St. in the Plaza of the Rockies building.

Poor Richards is offering a 10 percent discount to its four downtown businesses to UCCS riders who show their ID next week.

Mountain Metro officials will host a meeting noon-1 p.m. Monday, April 11 in Breckenridge residence hall 5101 for anyone who wants to learn more about using the bus system. The presentation will include how to find routes, pay fares and use the bike racks on buses. Pizza will be served.

The UCCS Office of Parking and Transportation Services is sponsoring a Facebook photo contest for bus users. Use #BusSelfie and see facebook.com/uccspts for information.
