The Office of the Chancellor is asking faculty and staff with ties to Colorado Springs high schools, and with legible handwriting, to write personal notes of encouragement to prospective UCCS students.
In an effort to make UCCS student recruitment more personal, Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak asked faculty and staff who graduated from a Colorado Springs-area high school to volunteer to write personal notes to students who may be deciding to continue their education or choosing among several different colleges.
"Society has turned to more and more technical solutions for information," Shockley-Zalabak said. "I think we can set ourselves apart by connecting at a personal level with our prospective students. There are few things more personal than a hand-written note offering assistance delivered to your home address."
As an example, a UCCS faculty or staff member who graduated from Palmer High School would be asked to write 10 current Palmer students considering UCCS. Ditto for those who graduated from Harrison, Doherty, Mitchell, Air Academy, Rampart or dozens of other area schools. The Office of Admissions will provide volunteers with names, notecards and a sample script suitable for personalization.
Those interested in volunteering should send an email with contact information (name, email) and the school from which they graduated to [email protected].
