Outstanding staff award nominations sought

In honor of UCCS Police Officer Garrett Swasey, who died Nov. 27 in the line of duty, the outstanding staff award of the Executive Committee of the UCCS Staff Association has been renamed.

The award acknowledges outstanding achievements and contributions of a UCCS staff member who exemplifies excellence in service to the campus and community, according to Dean of Students Steve Linhart.

The Executive Committee seeks nominations for what is now the 2016 Garrett Swasey Outstanding Staff Award. Nominations are due 4 p.m. Feb. 8. The recipient of the award will receive $1,000 from Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak at the April 27 campus awards ceremony. To be eligible, the nominee must be a permanent staff member (classified or professional exempt) of UCCS and employed for a minimum of three years as of Dec. 31, 2015.

The recipient of the award must demonstrate:

  • Exceptional commitment which exceeds job expectations.
  • Continual service to the UCCS community through various activities (e.g., committee work, staff involvement, community relations, etc.).
  • Positive working relationships with students, colleagues at all levels, and other constituents of the campus.
  • An active and ongoing commitment to the betterment of UCCS that is typified by the phrase “going above and beyond the call of duty.”
