Ralph Giese, director, Office of Residence Life and Housing, was recently recognized with the University of Colorado Staff Council Service Excellence Award.

At an April 3 ceremony at the History Colorado Center in downtown Denver, Giese was recognized for his university-wide, campus and community work. His campus and university contributions include service as a UCCS Staff Council representative, as a member of a campus LGBT Task Force, as a student housing consultant to CU Denver, helping found a basketball booster club and serving as a search committee diversity champion. In the community, he was recognized for his work with groups including the Pikes Peak Chapter of the National Association of Mental Illness and the Pikes Peak Court Appointed Special Advocates.

“While he performs his regular duties as the director of residence life and housing in an outstanding manner, what truly sets him apart is his commitment, hard work and compassion in his efforts above and beyond his normal work schedule,” Steve Linhart, dean of students, wrote in a nomination letter.

Stephanie Hanenberg, executive director, Student Health Services, called Giese “a stellar example of what it means to be dedicated to helping others along with having one of the strongest work ethics I’ve ever encountered.”

The University of Colorado Staff Council annually recognizes and rewards those individuals from each CU campus and system administration who provide outstanding volunteer service, enriching their campus, community, and the university as a whole. Giese will receive a $1,000 award and a plaque.
