Leaving the military to pursue a college or vocational degree can be daunting for many service members. The presence of dedicated advocates at schools and programs can significantly ease this transition, providing essential support and guidance.
Jeff Deickman, Assistant Director of Veteran and Military Affairs, was recognized by Military Friendly® with the 2024 Veteran Champions of the Year in Higher Education award.
This prestigious recognition celebrates those who go above and beyond in advocating for the advancement and success of student veterans in higher education.
“It’s no surprise to those of us who work with Jeff every day and to the student veterans he serves!,” said Crista Hill, Director of Veteran and Military Affairs. “He is the strongest supporter of veterans on this campus, always taking the time to assist them with anything they need, whether related to education or not. Jeff’s passion for those who have served directly affects the retention and well-being of our student veterans daily. “
Champions were selected for their unwavering dedication to creating and nurturing sustainable services and programs that support veterans’ success in higher education. They frequently serve as mentors and work tirelessly to address the unique needs of student veterans.
“As a career military leader, I’d say education is the most important path to success,” said Deickman. “Supporting military-connected students allows me to both teach and learn to support student success in every endeavor. Constant learning is essential, for when we cease to learn, we cease to progress. This simple belief has guided me from leading soldiers on the battlefield to supporting academic success in the classroom and will always be utmost in my mind.”
