Build your mental health support skills with new training

UCCS recently introduced a new course designed to equip participants with practical skills to effectively engage with mental health concerns as they arise.

According to an NCHA survey taken by UCCS students, compared to pre-pandemic years, UCCS has 69% more students who reported being diagnosed with anxiety, and those diagnosed with depression increased 61%. Knowing how to identify when someone is struggling and being familiar with the available resources is more important than ever.

The Skills for Mental Health Support course covers the Recognize, Respond, and Refer framework you can follow when a member of the UCCS community is experiencing mental health challenges.

This course reflects our commitment to creating a campus culture that prioritizes the well-being of its members. By fostering a community that is well-versed in mental health support, we can collectively contribute to a healthier and more empathetic campus environment.

The course takes about 15 minutes to complete and is available in SkillSoft, through the Employee Portal. Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions.

In addition to this training, UCCS offers two other mental health trainings:

CU: Suicide Prevention
In this one-hour self-paced course, you’ll learn how to recognize the warning signs and risk factors of suicide in the workplace, and how to appropriately follow-up when there are concerns. The content of this course discusses the sensitive and challenging topic of suicide. If this training is not appropriate for you at this time due to past or current experiences, then please access this content at a later time.

Once you log into SkillSoft, search for CU: Suicide Prevention or click on this link.

QPR: Question. Persuade. Refer.
