The University of Colorado co-hosted the 2023 Colorado Capital Conference in Washington, D.C., from June 13-15, with UCCS students Crystal Gasser, MPA graduate student in the College of Public Service; and Isabella Polombo, Communications student in the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences, attending.
The annual Colorado Capital Conference provides Colorado residents the opportunity to meet national leaders in D.C., get more insight into the federal legislative process and learn more about the U.S. government and how to engage with and affect public policy.
Along with CU, other conference partners included Colorado Mesa University, Colorado State University and U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper. Students from the fellow CU branches attended as well. From CU Anschutz, there was Nicholas Dawson and Gamlet Oganesean, with Chase Cromwell of CU Boulder and Kayla Gabehart of CU Denver participating as well.
“I’m so incredibly grateful for this opportunity to attend the Colorado Capital Conference,” said Gasser. “Getting to be here in our capital, meet the amazing Coloradans in attendance, and hear from so many of our leaders has been the honor of a lifetime. It’s been an invaluable learning experience that I will carry with me as I progress in my education and career.”
The CU students were selected from an application process, from which only 100 Colorado citizens are chosen to attend.
