UCCS will implement furlough measures for some employees beginning July 1, the start of the 2020-21 fiscal year, as mentioned initially in the campus Town Hall May 21.
“We are weathering a storm together,” said Chancellor Venkat Reddy in a memo to campus. “We will make it through by doing what we do best: supporting each other, caring for each other, staying true to our mission and lifting up our entire Mountain Lion Family.”
Current employees
University staff and 12-month faculty who make more than $60,000 annually will experience a 4.6 percent furlough, equivalent to one unpaid day per month. Current university staff and faculty members who make less than $60,000 annually will not be impacted by furlough measures. Any university staff and faculty making more than $60,000, but who would fall below $60,000 as a result of the furlough measure, will either receive a half-day furlough or no furlough in order to stay above the $60,000 threshold.
Staff members within auxiliary units with furloughs already in place are not subject to additional furloughs. Furloughs also do not impact classified staff. These staff members have received direction specific to their positions.
Furloughs will begin July 1 for university staff and 12-month faculty, and Aug. 17 for nine-month faculty.
Officers of the university – the chancellor, vice chancellors, associate vice chancellors and deans – will take a 10 percent furlough, equivalent to two unpaid days per month. The Office of Human Resources has created a webpage specific for employees with answers to frequently asked questions and resources. Employees with additional questions should reach out to their supervisor for initial guidance.
Incoming employees
While UCCS has instituted a “hiring chill,” meaning all requests to fill positions must be submitted for additional review, hiring is still taking place for critical positions. All university staff and faculty who start July 1 or later will be placed on a 2.3 percent furlough on their start date. The furlough will affect all new university staff and faculty making $60,000 or more annually.
