Spring 2013 student enrollment increased by almost six percent from a year ago, according to preliminary figures released Thursday by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Enrollment Management.
Homer Wesley, vice chancellor, Student Success and Enrollment Management, said 9,445 students enrolled for the spring 2013 semester, a 408 student or 4.5 percent increase from the 9,037 students who enrolled for spring 2012.
Student credit hours – the number of students on campus and the courses in which they are enrolled – also increased and provides a more accurate picture of campus activity. For spring 2013, students enrolled in 109,603 credit hours, an increase of 5,858 credit hours or 5.6 percent more than the spring 2012 record of 103,745 credit hours.
“Clearly this has been a university community effort,” Wesley said. “The colleges — deans, associate deans and faculty — have worked hard to provide additional course capacity to accommodate this growth. Along with the support from all units we have all worked hard to deliver a premier educational experience to a growing number of students.”
The official census date for the spring semester was Feb. 6. Over the next several days, enrollment figures will continue to be tabulated, analyzed and shared with the campus, Wesley said.
