UCCS recognized for diversity efforts

Diversity Council AwardThe Colorado Springs Diversity Forum, a group of businesses, organizations and individuals who advocate positive diversity practices, recently awarded UCCS with a 2012 Diversity and Inclusion Award.

UCCS was awarded the “steady and strong” award in the nonprofit organization category. The campus was recognized for sustained and substantial inclusiveness efforts across campus including such programs as diversity initiatives within the campus strategic plan, Pre-Colligate Development programs, the Adelina Gomez Scholars program for Denver Public School juniors, Safe Zone Ally Training programs, the Matrix Center, and the MOSAIC Office for multicultural student access, inclusiveness and community.

Kee Warner, associate vice chancellor for diversity and inclusiveness, Academic Affairs, accepted the award on behalf of the university.

“My role in this office is to engage people from across the campus and build respect for diversity,” Warner said in a special supplement to the Colorado Springs Business Journal that highlighted award recipients.

Other winners were the United States Air Force Academy in the government category and Progressive Insurance in the for-profit category.

  1. This is wonderful news for UCCS -we had reports that GLBT+ students did not feel represented at UCCS but this award lets us know that all is well.
