There are 24 new tenured or tenure-track faculty members who joined UCCS this fall.
In the next few editions of Communique, brief profiles of the new faculty will be published. This week’s introductions include six assistant professors and one associate professor.
Jeffrey E. Scholes, assistant professor, Department of Philosophy, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. He previously was an instructor in the department and also directed the Center for Religious Diversity and Public Life. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, a master’s from Princeton Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. from the University of Denver/Iliff School of Theology.
Blaise Sonnier, assistant professor, College of Business. He previously was an assistant clinical professor and director of the executive masters of science in taxation at Florida International University. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, a juris doctorate from Louisiana State University, and a doctorate in business administration from Grenoble Ecole de Management, Grenoble, France.
Kristen Walcott-Justice, assistant professor, College of Engineering and Applied Science. She previously was an instructor, graduate research assistant and teaching assistant in the University of Virginia’s Department of Computer Science. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College, and master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
Yang Wei, assistant professor, Department of History, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. He previously was a student at Harvard University’s Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University, China, a master’s from the University of Illinois, and Ph.D. from Harvard University.
Yang Xu, assistant professor, College of Business. She previously was a doctoral student at the University of Kansas. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Beijing Foreign Studies University, a master’s from Pepperdine University and Ph.D. from the University of Kansas.
Qing Yi, associate professor, College of Engineering and Applied Science. He previously was an assistant professor in the University of Texas at San Antonio Computer Science Department and conducted post-doctoral research at Rice University and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Shandong University, a master’s from the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy Cinica, and master’s and Ph.D. from Rice University.
Kimberly Zahler, assistant professor, College of Business. She previously was a student at the University of Central Florida and taught accounting courses. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Miami University, a master’s degrees from Ohio State University, Miami University and the University of Central Florida and a Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida.
