Chancellor Memo: Memorial Hospital Vote

August 28, 2012

To the Campus Community:

I am pleased to share with you the results of the mail-in balloting by Colorado Springs residents to lease Memorial Hospital to University of Colorado Health.

More than 83 percent of the votes cast were in favor of the UCH proposal.

I believe this vote a positive move for the University of Colorado and for UCCS. Plans will move forward for the creation of a branch campus of the CU School of Medicine which will bring third and fourth year medical students to our campus and broader community. I also believe this new relationship will increase our opportunities for sponsored research and tighten the relationship between UCCS and the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Clearly, we have much work ahead of us in developing this latest chapter in the University of Colorado’s history. But tonight, and for the next few days, I hope that we will celebrate this historic vote and the confidence that the voters have entrusted in our university.

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to many discussions of the creation of a branch campus of the CU School of Medicine and exploration of other innovations that will come from it.

Respectfully,

Pam Shockley-Zalabak
Chancellor
