Students and employees who feel like they need an extra person to walk with can call UCCS Police to request a safety escort, as highlighted in the department’s latest #SafetyTipTuesday video released on social media March 5.
“There are times on campus when maybe you don’t feel very safe. It does happen,” Sgt. Lisa Dipzinski said at the start of the video. “If you feel like an area is a little too dark, or you need someone to walk with you or drive you somewhere because you feel unsafe, we do have the safety escort program.”
UCCS Police encourage students and employees to walk with friends to enhance personal safety. But if a person is alone and wants an additional level of protection, safety escorts are available by calling police dispatch at (719) 255-3111 or using one of the emergency call boxes. A police officer, student security officer or a community service officer will meet you and help you reach your destination.
The UCCS Police Department employs 17 sworn, state-certified and commissioned peace officers in addition to five campus service and housing security officers.
