Four organizations and individuals were recognized as leaders in the development of small businesses in Teller and El Paso counties during a June 13 luncheon hosted by the Colorado Springs Small Business Development Center.
The awards were announced by Aikta Marcoulier, director, SBDC.
The winners were:
- Sponsor of the Year: City of Colorado Springs for its continued support and commitment to the SBDC’s mission to help businesses start, grow, and prosper in Colorado.
- Instructor of the Year: Patricia Asher, a Colorado Springs Certified Public Accountant, who taught the most classes and received the highest average evaluation scores of the more than 30 volunteer teachers.
- Volunteer of the Year: Steve Imke, Monument, an entrepreneur who logged more than 70 hours a month of counseling and served as interim co-director of the SBDC during a search for a permanent director.
- Special recognition: Shawna Markiewicz, project manager, UCCS College of Business Center for Entrepreneurship and El Pomar Institute for Innovation and Commercialization. Markiewicz was recognized for exemplary leadership while serving as interim co-director of the SBDC during a search for a permanent director.
The master of ceremonies for the event was Niki Weirich, of KXRM Fox 21 and the event was sponsored by U.S. Bank. The keynote speakers were Laura Love and Ramonna Robinson of Ground Floor Media, Denver.
The SBDC is sponsored by the UCCS College of Business and the U.S. Small Business Administration. It offers business consulting and training that assists small businesses in El Paso and Teller County.
