U.S. News uses a matrix of data points to compile its rankings. For engineering, the factors include peer assessment, corporate recruiter assessments, student selectivity, GRE quantitative scores, acceptance rates, faculty resources, student to faculty ratio, percent of faculty in the National Academy of Engineering, doctoral degrees awarded, research activity, total research expenditures and average research expenditures per faculty member. For the part-time MBA rankings, U.S. News used peer assessment, average GMAT scores of part-time MBA students entering in fall 2011, those students average undergraduate GPA, work experience and the percentage of the business school’s fall 2011 MBA enrollment that was part-time.
