Clinical pharmacists from the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Anschutz Medical Campus will provide free prescription medication consultations to UCCS faculty and staff.
Confidential visits with the pharmacists will be available by appointment on April 12 and May 31 for faculty and staff who are members of the University of Colorado Health and Welfare plans (UA Net, Lumenos, HMO Colorado, Medicare supplement and University Kaiser).
The consultations will provide faculty and staff the opportunity to learn how medications work and how to get the maximum benefit from them. The pharmacists can also work with primary care providers to ensure that prescribed medications are effective, monitored, safe, do not cause unwanted side effects or drug interactions, and assist with lower cost medication alternatives.
Steve Smith, assistant professor, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, will be available for appointments on April 12. Katy Trinkley, assistant professor, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, will be available for appointments May 31. A limited number of appointments are available. Those who are interested should sign up quickly, organizers said.
The consultations are recommended for those faculty and staff members who take multiple medications, have multiple health conditions or complicated conditions, receive medication from multiple healthcare providers or who have difficulty affording or remembering to take medications.
