Elizabeth Throop, interim dean, Siebens School of Business and visiting professor of anthropology, Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, Iowa, will present her qualifications to be dean of the UCCS College of Letters, Arts and Sciences during a campus forum scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 31 in the University Center Theater.
Throop, interim dean at Buena Vista University since July 2011, previously served as dean of the Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota School of Humanities and Sciences and professor of social sciences, chair and associate professor of anthropology at Eastern Kentucky University, assistant and associate professor of sociology at McKendree College, Lebanon, Ill., and assistant professor of psychology at Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, Wisc., in addition to several teaching assistant and adjunct professor positions and work as a school and family therapist. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn., a master’s degree in social work from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a master’s degree in anthropology from the University of California, San Diego, and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of California, San Diego.
Throop is the third of six dean candidates to visit UCCS.
Kathleen Tiemann, interim dean, College of Arts and Sciences, University of North Dakota, was introduced as a finalist and conducted a public forum Jan. 23. Rex Welson, associate dean, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, was introduced as a finalist and conducted a public forum Jan. 18.
The finalists were announced Jan. 11 by Teri Switzer, dean, Kraemer Family Library, and search committee chair.
The other candidates are:
- Manuel Avalos, director of research partnerships and innovation, University of North Carolina, Wilmington.
- Peter Braza, professor of mathematics, College of Computing, Engineering and Construction, University of North Florida.
- Tammy Stone, professor of anthropology, University of Colorado Denver.
The dates of public presentations by candidates will be announced in Communique and by email to faculty and staff lists.
