The 2011 Colorado Combined Campaign kicks off with a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 16 in University Center room 116, promising food, fun and prizes.
In difficult economic times, charities are especially in need of financial support, and more than 75 percent of all charitable giving is from individual donors. As honorary chairman of the 2011 CCC, M. W. Scoggins, president, Colorado School of Mines, emphasized these two facts in his online appeal. He also quoted author and philanthropist Sir John Templeton, who said, "The best investment with the least risk and the greatest dividend is giving." Scoggins noted how state employees have given generously since the campaign was established more than 20 years ago.
The CCC is a workplace campaign that allows individual Colorado state employees to donate to charities that benefit Coloradans in need. Administrators for the campaign coordinate the contributions of individual donors with non-profit organizations and numerous community resources to deliver long-term solutions for individuals and families in Colorado.
The CCC represents more than 700 charities, makes it possible for donors to support one or many favorite charities in a single effort, and makes it possible to keep donations close to home. The top 10 agencies in the Pikes Peak region to receive donations from last year’s campaign include United Way Pikes Peak; TESSA; Care and Share Food Bank; the American Red Cross; Canine Companions for Independence; Habitat for Humanity; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; Silver Key Senior Services; Trails and Open Space Coalition; and Colorado Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc.
Donors can create a better Colorado by contributing to whatever causes they find most meaningful. A space to designate chosen charities and the amounts intended for each are on the pledge form. The CCC web site contains a listing of participating agencies so donors may choose charities that benefit a variety of causes that include children, the homeless, animals, or the environment. If the donor has a special interest in job training, education, or aiding victims of domestic violence, agencies advocating these causes are included.
Donations are voluntary, confidential, and tax-deductible. Individuals can donate through monthly payroll deductions that begin in Jan. 2012. The CCC also welcomes gifts made by cash, check or credit card, and one-time donations.
Participants may choose to donate using a paper pledge form, or may go online. The CCC website is http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/CCC2/CBON/1251595445271.
