To the Campus Community:

Portrait of Chancellor Pam Shockley-ZalabakAs we enter a new fiscal year on July 1, I write to inform you about recent budget developments and approvals granted by the CU Board of Regents.

At the June 21 and 22 regents meeting held on our campus, the board approved a UCCS total funds budget request of $158.3 million for fiscal year 2011-12.

Included in this budget are modest targeted investments, new campus unit operating funds, and a budget increment to provide faculty and staff salary increases later in the fiscal year if we are able to meet certain conditions.

The CU Board of Regents tied any merit salary increases for faculty and exempt staff members to the campus meeting its enrollment and budget targets in the fall academic semester. We continue to explore options for classified staff members. The official campus enrollment growth target is 2 percent above FY 10-11 levels. The latest data indicate we have a good chance of achieving this target.

I must emphasize that meeting this enrollment growth target is required if we are to provide merit-based salary increases. The increases would take effect no earlier than October.

I thank each of you for your dedicated work for our campus in this volatile, but improving, economic time. We have much to be proud of in our past and much to be excited about in our future. I hope you have a great summer and look forward to seeing you soon.

Respectfully,

Pam Shockley-Zalabak signature
