Faculty and staff who combined for more than $200,000 in giving to UCCS in 2017 were recognized for their commitment to the university in a campus celebration April 15.
“I am pleased and humbled to look around this room today and to see so many familiar faces – my colleagues, with nearly every college, department, program, initiative and essential function represented,” Chancellor Venkat Reddy began the evening.
Honored at the event was Kee Warner, professor, Sociology Department, who delivered the keynote speech. Warner is one of the university’s most loyal donors, having made a payroll deduction donation nearly every month since he started working at UCCS 25 years ago.
“We have a diversity of passions on this campus, and while the Adelina Gomez Scholars program might be my interest, you can have a say in the direction of things on this campus by contributing to any number of programs you believe in,” Warner said.
Student and scholarship recipient Jacob Guilez also spoke about the personal impact private support has had on his college experience, and the example it has allowed him to set for his six younger brothers and sisters.
“Without the support, things could have gone very differently for me. For my whole family,” Guilez said. “Now my family will get to celebrate a major milestone – our first bachelor’s degree, with, we hope, many more to come. Thank you, all of you, for investing in students like me, and in UCCS, a very special place.”
Chancellor Reddy concluded the evening by looking forward to more people next year as employees continue to invest back into the campus.
