Shawna Markiewicz, assistant to the director, Small Business Development Center, will help maintain the operations of SBDC as the search for a new director to replace Matt Barrett takes place.
After five years as the SBDC director, Barrett resigned effective Jan. 14 for a position with Graham Advertising, Colorado Springs.
A search is expected to begin Feb. 3. Tom Duening, El Pomar Chair of Business and Entrepreneurship, will chair the search committee. Other members include Jan Martin, Colorado Springs City Council member; Greg Welch, vice president, UMB Bank; Dave Csintyan, president, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce; Sam White, senior instructor, College of Business; and Lisa Urenda, support staff, College of Business.
The SBDC will continue offering services that include small business counseling, training seminars and events.
The SBDC is a non-profit organization that provides free counseling and low-cost training seminars to small and medium sized businesses in El Paso and Teller Counties. The SBDC is partially funded by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the City of Colorado Springs, and the UCCS College of Business.
