No longer will callers for UCCS fundraising be Boulder-based.

On Feb. 15, a UCCS call center opened in the University Park Offices in cooperation with vendor Ruffalo Noel Levitz. The Colorado Springs call center, as well as one at CU Denver, is staffed by students from the respective campuses. By hiring home-campus students, organizers believe callers and alumni will have an affinity that will lead to increased annual giving.

Previously, a Boulder-based call center handled calls to alumni from Boulder, Denver and Colorado Springs campuses.

“Having UCCS alumni contacted by a current UCCS student allows for a personal connection,” Jennifer Hane, director, Alumni Relations and Annual Fund, said. “If those on the phone can share a story about taking classes in Dwire Hall or climbing Austin Bluffs Parkway in the snow, they have a connection that’s vitally important to the annual fund’s success.”

For students, call centers can be a good place to work, Hane said. Employees are offered tuition assistance, flexible evening and weekend hours and pay bonuses. Students typically work 10 to 20 hours per week and have about 20 conversations with alumni and friends per shift.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to direct interested students to learn more about the call center, and to apply, at http://uccs.thecallingcenter.com/home.php?site=178.
