Faculty get grants to improve teaching

Four UCCS faculty members recently received $500 grants to assist them in improving their classroom teaching.

This year’s recipients, as selected by the Campus Awards Committee, follow. Funding for the grants was provided by the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

    Haleh Abghari

    Haleh Abghari, instructor, Department of Visual and Performing Arts. Abghari will purchase musical instruments from various world cultures and use them to demonstrate differences and similarities in music.

  • Katie Anderson-Pence
    Katie Anderson-Pence

    Katie Anderson-Pence, assistant professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education. Anderson-Pence will purchase manipulatives, physical objects designed to assist learners in making sense of mathematical ideas.

  • Lisa Hines
    Lisa Hines

    Lisa Hines, associate professor, Department of Biology. Hines will purchase compounds and experiment supplies for general biology courses for use by students interested in biology education.

  • Scott Kupferman
    Scott Kupferman

    Scott Kupferman, assistant professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education. Kupferman will purchase various iPad and tablet apps that Colorado school districts require teachers to show competency in using.
