While gravity is one of the four fundamental forces of nature, its effects on living organisms are still relatively mysterious.
At the Sept. 8 Café Scientifique, David Klaus, professor and associate chair for undergraduate studies, Aerospace Engineering Sciences, CU-Boulder, will discuss how astronauts orbiting Earth offer a unique environment to study physiological and psychological effects of gravity, and the lack thereof. Klaus will also explore gravity’s effects on bacteria, which exists at or just below the theoretical threshold of being directly influenced by gravity.
The presentation, entitled “Gravity’s influence on the spectrum of life – from humans to bacteria,” will start at 6:30 p.m. at Clyde’s in the University Center.
The UCCS Department of Public Safety will provide complementary parking for the event in lots 222 and 224 located south of Centennial Hall and the University Center. Please note that all other parking restrictions (handicapped parking, loading zones, fire lanes) apply.
Funding for Café Scientifique is provided by the Division of Administration and Finance.
