Basketball seasons come to end, make program history

After a combined 53 wins and 13 loses, and trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournament, the men’s and women’s basketball teams historic seasons are over.

885750_531997853609261_5074774353296118184_oThe UCCS Women’s Basketball team qualified as the No. 2 seed in the South Central Region. They defeated CSU-Pueblo and Colorado Christian University during the first two rounds of the tournament before falling to West Texas A&M 69-96 in the Sweet 16 on March 16.

The women’s team finished the season 26-7, with program records in total wins, points and rebounds in the first NCAA postseason appearance in program history. Seniors Jessika Kienitz, McKenna Haist, Sam Patterson, Kellie Krueger and Abby Kirchoff were a part of four consecutive RMAC Tournament teams and a pair of conference semifinal squads.

11043464_1562041727388159_4906897779713653518_oAfter winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship, the UCCS Men’s Basketball entered the tournament as a No. 4 seed in the South Central Region. After narrowly defeating Colorado School of Minds in a 90-87 nail-biter, they advanced to the second round where they were defeated 62-84 by Tarleton State University March 15.

The men’s team set records for wins, points and assists, and ranked as high as No. 2 in the NABC National Poll while finishing the season 27-6. Darius Pardner, Chris Morgan, Tommie Anderson, Alex Koehler and Tim Billingsley finished their collegiate careers on the best team in program history and were a part of the only two NCAA Tournament teams in program history.
