Mountain Lion student-athletes extend department 3.00 GPA to 41 consecutive semesters

Through the completion of the 2024 fall semester, the UCCS Department of Athletics recorded a 3.398 Grade Point Average (GPA), extending the streak to 41 successive semesters with at least a 3.00 GPA as a department. The 3.398 GPA is the highest since May 2020, when the Mountain Lions also recorded a 3.39 GPA.

“UCCS Athletics prides itself on our student-athletes achieving in the classroom,” said Executive Director of Athletics Nathan Gibson. “For over 20 years, 41 consecutive semesters, Mountain Lion student-athletes continue to prove themselves by maintaining a 3.0+ GPA! I am especially proud that every program also achieved a 3.0+ GPA this fall and the department GPA was one of the best in school history in a single semester. As always, this is a team effort and I know our student-athletes are so grateful for the support of coaches, staff and the wonderful faculty we have at UCCS!”

Of the 14 NCAA Division II programs at UCCS, four teams earned at least a 3.50 grade point average. Women’s cross country led the athletic department with an impressive 3.706 team GPA, followed by women’s soccer (3.69 GPA), women’s lacrosse (3.627 GPA), and softball (3.588 GPA).

Among the five fall programs competing, nine Mountain Lion student-athletes were named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team, while 43 more earned RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll status. Fie Steenberg and Taylyn Levi from the women’s soccer team and Soren Russell and Miles Seminario from the men’s soccer team received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District distinction, with Seminario going on to earn Academic All-America accolades.

Nearly 130 student-athletes were named to the President’s List (63) and the Dean’s List (65). To qualify for these semester honors, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 graded hours during a regular semester (Fall or Spring). Students who achieve a 4.00 grade point average are placed on the President’s List, and students who achieve a 3.75-3.99 grade point average are placed on the Dean’s List.
