Self-Defense Class with UCCS Police

  • This is for a self-defense class led by one of the UCCS police officers. The class meets every other week, alternating between Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Students can sign up for each class individually!

First-Gen and Veteran and Student Trivia

  • In partnership with the Veteran and Military Affairs office, this event will be a presentation and trivia game relating to the First-Generation Veteran student experience. If this is you or if you would like to support, join us for pizza and a good time!

Sense of Place: CSU Energy Today and Tomorrow, Historic Powerplant Tour!
Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 12:15 – 4:30 p.m. | Sustainability Demonstration House

  • Join us for an exclusive tour of the historic 1953 Birdsall Powerplant, a talk on energy trading and a visit to the former Drake power plant site. Learn how Colorado Springs Utilities has powered your city for 100 years, and how a monumental shift towards clean energy production is creating a sustainable future.   • First2Go and the T. Rowe Price Career and Innovation Center are partnering to present: Networking 101! Join us for a presentation on how to build a great LinkedIn and develop in-person networking skills. The presentation will touch on why networking is such an important skill to have online and in person and some tips and tricks to master it. Lunch provided!

Mental Health Stigma: Knowing When to Ask for Help
Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 2 – 3 p.m. | Wellness Center Zen Den

  • Join the MOSAIC Scholars Program and First2Go in a special dialogue circle where participants will get to share their experiences regarding mental health. Cultural stigma, misconceptions, and even perhaps the lack of resources in their life can be shared and discussed among peers and mental health experts from the Wellness Center. Participants will also learn about UCCS-based and local resources in the community to assist with their mental health at no cost. This session will include free food and drink.

Navigating the Dark Web
Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 5 – 7 p.m. | UCCS Cybersecurity Center, Room 106A

  • Join WiCyS UCCS for this event, led by Dr. Serena “Sully” Sullivan, that will introduce online privacy and censorship, feature a live demonstration of accessing the dark web using Kali Linux and Tor, and discuss safe navigation techniques. For students interested in learning more, we will also be giving a free Tor installation guide and insights into intriguing dark web sites.

Acclimating to the U.S.: Majority to Minority
Thursday, Nov. 7 from 2 – 3 p.m. | Virtual event

  • This workshop will aim to identify the hardships of going from the majority to the minority. We will cover the common hardships international students face when first moving to the U.S., and how to overcome those hardships.

Creative Writing Open Mic

Colorado Cybersecurity Education Summit for K-12
Friday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. | Kevin W. O’Neil Cybersecurity Center or join virtually 

  • UCCS is hosting a one-day summit to address how best to bring cybersecurity into Colorado classrooms. The event will cover key issues that must be addressed, including sourcing cybersecurity curriculum, educating teachers via CDE endorsements to teach cybersecurity in the classroom, and ensuring that your school or district IT/tech infrastructure can support the process. Guest speakers include Jiri Jirik, Director, EPNC and Ashley Greely, CAE Program Office, NSA. Register here.

  • UCCSlead Game Changer is a half-day transformational leadership experience open to all UCCS-affiliated undergraduate and graduate students no matter their discipline or classification. Students will learn who they are as leaders, gain fundamental leadership skills, and take first steps to cultivating their personal brand of leadership. Additionally, students will receive UCCSlead swag, free food, a leadership certificate, and a graduation cord.

Heller Center Arts Exchange: Opening Exhibit Reception

  • Come join us for the gallery exhibition featuring the work of local artist Jeresneyka Rose and the work of three UCCS Students. “Color your World” features Stories, Images, Sounds and Sculptures that remind us that the world is nothing without color.

Chamber Orchestra of the Springs presents: The Romantic Voice
Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. & Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m. | Chapman Foundation Recital Hall

  • Mezzo-soprano GeDeane Graham joins us for a concert steeped in Romanticism. She will sing Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder – a song cycle that later formed the basis for parts of his famous opera Tristan und Isolde. We’ll also celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn’s first symphony, and perform Adolphus Hailstork’s neo-Romantic take on a 17th-century style of chamber music for religious meditation.
