Continuing efforts to fund valuable student retreats, the Multicultural Office for Student Access, Inclusiveness, and Community (M.O.S.A.I.C.) recently held a La Lotería Social & Fundraiser event at the local, alumni-owned brewery Atrevida Beer Co.
Several Mountain Lion community members, including students, alumni, faculty and staff, gathered to spread awareness about the retreats and enjoy the many beverages on offer from Atrevida, while raising money to keep retreats free for students and help provide vital tools for their success such as academic planners, grocery gift cards and even hygiene kits.
“Thank you to everyone that continues to support the UCCS M.O.S.A.I.C. and LGBTQ+ Resource Center!” said Whitley Hadley, director of the center. “It was such a treat getting to see our community laugh, cheer, and even groan as we played the beloved game of La Lotería to support our diverse student body. I am grateful to be back at my alma mater and serving in a position that prioritizes access and directly contributes to cultivating a stronger sense of understanding and belonging for the campus community.”
Established in 2023, the M.O.S.A.I.C. Retreats are designed to contribute directly to persistence, retention and completion rates for minoritized groups, such as students of color and LGBTQ+ student populations, at UCCS. These retreats help students get connected to the community, empowered in their identity as leaders and prepared to have a successful, fulfilling UCCS experience.
