Faculty, staff and students use to parking on the streets surrounding University Hall will have to find a new place to park.

On July 9, the City of Colorado Springs implemented the second phase of its Cragmor Neighborhood parking program, which limits on-street parking in the neighborhoods surrounding campus.

Under the new rules, on-street parking in the Cragmor neighborhood north of Austin Bluff Parkway is prohibited from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, without a residential permit. Property owners will receive two permits per home that allow on-street parking.

According to Jim Spice, executive director, Parking and Transportation Services, the changes shouldn’t have a substantial impact to campus.

“Unlike the first phase of this program, which the City implemented last year in the neighborhood south of campus, this plan only affects about 125 potential parking spots in the neighborhood, so the number of people affected is much smaller,” Spice said.

“We also added a new shuttle last year and expanded the shuttles’ operating hours, as well as increased the number on-campus parking spots with the opening of the Alpine Parking Garage and the addition of Lot 103 east of campus.”

Spice encouraged faculty, staff and students to utilize the free parking at Four Diamonds, which offers free shuttles running to campus and University Hall between from 6:40 a.m. to 10:35 p.m.

Individuals who park in the Cragmor neighborhood in violation of city ordinances may face fines as much as $60 per violation.
