As we approach the season of giving, we are delighted to share heartening news from the UCCS College of Public Service. Assistant Professors Jessica Berrett (Public Administration) and Stephanie Gangemi (Social Work) have dedicated their time and creativity to support Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity’s admirable cause this holiday season.
Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity is hosting its annual Gingerbread Decorating Fundraising Competition, benefiting the 5th Veterans Build initiative. The competition invites organizations, families and individuals from El Paso County to showcase their artistic creativity by creating gingerbread homes. The aim? To raise funds to assist Damian, Trinady, and their two children—a local US Army veteran family—in realizing their dream of a new, affordable home in collaboration with Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity.
Representing the UCCS College of Public Service enthusiastically, Professors Berrett and Gangemi have crafted a remarkable gingerbread house. Their creation represents the UCCS campus, featuring intricately detailed replicas of the Academic Offices Building, the iconic clock tower, the beloved mountain lion statue and the welcoming entrance sign. This creative endeavor is a testament to their creative abilities and demonstrates the college’s commitment to community service.
The success of this initiative relies on community involvement. Professors Berrett and Gangemi invite you to participate by “voting” for your favorite gingerbread homes by donating, and they extend a special invitation to consider supporting the UCCS gingerbread house. Your contribution will directly contribute to the betterment of Damian, Trinady, and their children’s lives.
Cast your vote and make a donation here. The deadline to vote and donate is Dec. 15 at midnight.
