Stanton Road segment to close for summer

A segment of Stanton Road will be closed May 19 through Aug. 15 as utilities are installed and a new traffic roundabout constructed, according to the Department of Facilities Services.

Only construction, emergency and Alpine Village resident traffic will be allowed between the intersection of Mountain Lion Way and the new Village at Alpine Valley student housing area, according to Charles Cummings, project manager, Facilities Services. The area will be controlled by flagmen.

The restriction is necessary as construction crews complete work on the Alpine Recreation Field & Parking Garage, begin work on the Village at Alpine Valley, and create a new roundabout designed to reduce commercial vehicle traffic in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. The closure to through-traffic was coordinated with the Colorado Springs Fire Department and Colorado Springs Police Department.

A lighted, secure pedestrian walkway from Village at Alpine Valley to campus is planned as is a stop for the campus shuttle.
