The Mountain Lions have a new watering hole on campus.
Big Cat Coffee, formerly Sanatorium Grounds, was recently unveiled in University Center at an event celebrating the new name and partnership with Loyal Coffee, complete with coffee and pastry samplings. Loyal Coffee co-owner Bevan Cammell and Chancellor Reddy spoke at the event, with students, staff and faculty in attendance. The name was chosen via campus vote from over 350 ideas submitted by the UCCS community.
“UCCS is dedicated to supporting the Colorado Springs community sustainably and economically, so we’re especially excited about this partnership because Loyal Coffee is a local and sustainable roaster,” said Chancellor Reddy.
The updated menu includes scones, hand pies, biscotti, quiches, tarts, cannolis and more upgraded pastries.
Loyal Coffee, founded in 2016, is a local barista owned and operated coffee shop “roasting and brewing coffee we love, for people we love, in the city we love” and emphasizing the importance of community and connecting with its members. There are two cafes nearby, one downtown and one at Northgate, and their coffee is roasted locally as well at the Loyal Coffee Clubhouse in Ivywild School. With a tight-knit team that “aims to bring out the best in each coffee by roasting with creativity and precision giving everyone a chance to savor great coffee together,” Loyal Coffee also partners with other cafes, coffee producers and homebrewers to continue impacting their own and other communities and supporting economically beneficial relationships in the coffee industry.
Along with a new name and collaboration, Big Cat Coffee has great new products to try as well and a loyalty program to get points with every mobile purchase. With tumblers, mugs, coffee and pastries that are made onsite daily, there’s several options to sample and collect.
