UCCS formally dedicated the glass-enclosed, three-story atrium in Dwire Hall to Bruce and Marcy Benson, retired President and First Lady of the CU System.

Benson served as President of the CU System for 11 years, one of the longest presidential tenures in the system’s history. Upon his retirement in 2020, each of the four CU campuses announced plans to dedicate named spaces in the Bensons’ honor. The celebration, originally planned for 2020, was postponed due to COVID-19 and finally took place on May 6, 2022.

Chancellor Venkat Reddy spoke about the Bensons’ lasting influence on UCCS. Notably, Benson was president during pivotal moments in the university’s history — including during UCCS’ explosive growth in enrollment, which began in 2006.

“Thank you, Bruce and Marcy,” Reddy said. “I speak for all of us when I say you led with both determination and heart. We are delighted to name this atrium in your honor. It will serve as a permanent reminder of the Benson’s commitment to CU.”
