Giving Tuesday 2021 raises $117,000 for student scholarships and programs

The AFCEA Rocky Mountain Chapter pledged support to UCCS student scholarships after 300 donors gave to the 2021 Giving Tuesday Campaign.

While donations continue to pour in, this Giving Tuesday’s tally has already far surpassed 2020’s record of giving, with donors giving more than $117,000 to student scholarships and programs at UCCS.

366 donors have contributed to 18 funds aimed at breaking down the barriers to student success, including emergency medical and mental health assistance for students, programs that support access and inclusion, hands-on training for tomorrow’s health care workers, scholarships and the Clyde’s Cupboard campus food pantry.

“Giving Tuesday is a time to remember why we’re all here – to support student access and achievement,” said Lisa Bartholme, assistant director of Alumni Relations. “We are so grateful for the hundreds of donors and sponsors for helping fuel their success.”

Donations of all sizes came from alumni, faculty and staff, students, parents and friends and community members throughout Colorado and 34 other states. These gifts reflect several challenges and matches from donors. While gifts are still being counted, the $117,000 already counted outstrip last year’s donations of $80,000.

Donors who provided Giving Tuesday challenges and matches included the AFCEA Rocky Mountain Chapter, Ent Credit Union, El Pomar Foundation Colorado Assistance Fund, Tidal Breeze Jazz Arts Scholarship Endowment, Lion Realty, Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative, UCCS alumnus Mike Fryt and faculty from the Department of Chemistry at UCCS.

Designated as a global day to give back after the shopping holidays of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday encourages gifts of any size to organizations that make an impact in communities. Since 2015, Giving Tuesday has brought in more than $661,000 for student scholarships and programs at UCCS from faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and friends.

Giving Tuesday took place on Nov. 30, 2021. Celebrations at UCCS included a Faculty & Staff Breakfast Open House, which invited UCCS employees to give back to the university in support of student programs. See photos of the event below. Photo credit: Jeffrey M Foster and Gabby Hensley.
